Intended learning outcomes

Prestressed Concrete aims to give students a solid understanding about design and execution of prestressed concrete structures, with special emphasis on those using post-tensioning technique. Students are supposed to develop the followings skills:

  1. Be able to decide if a given structural element should be prestressed or not.
  2. Learn the specific terminology of prestressing techniques.
  3. Be aware of the importance of the durability.
  4. Be able to choose a proper cable layout and the prestressing force to apply. e) Join smoothly in a team who execute or oversee tensioning operations.
  5. Be able to interpret the measured elongations and list possible causes whenever there is significant deviation between measured and theoretical elongations.
  6. Learn how to design and verify the safety of prestressed concrete elements.
